Obituary

Kay Richards, age 80, of Sapello NM, passed away peacefully in Yukon, Oklahoma, on April 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving daughter, Lesa, and devoted husband, Lawrence.

Born Kathryn Eileen Haberman in Kentucky on November 23, 1944, Kay was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who inspired many to strive for their best.

In 1962, Kay married her beloved husband, Lawrence Richards, and together they shared 63 years filled with love and unwavering support. While raising her children, Kay was a dedicated mother. Later in life, she pursued her passion for marine biology, working at the Gulf Coast Research Center in Mississippi. Demonstrating her commitment to lifelong learning, Kay returned to school and earned a Pharmacy degree from the University of Oklahoma. She then dedicated 30 years to her career as a pharmacist, serving her community with diligence and care.

Kay cherished spending time with her family, creating lasting memories through camping trips and enjoying water sports, especially fishing.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Lawrence; her three children: David Richards (Diane), Mark Richards (Christine), and Lesa Mercier (Perry); her six grandchildren: Alec, Sarah, Anna, Bryce, Corbin, and Devin; her eight great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Francie Haberman. Kay was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill and Karl.

A funeral service to celebrate Kay’s life will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish in La Junta, Colorado.
