Karen was born on September 29, 1967, in Kim, Colorado, to John and Suzanne (Ballard) Platt. Karen dedicated her life to nurturing both animals and people, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion.
A proud graduate of Kim High School, Karen furthered her education at Otero College before earning her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University. She began her career as a veterinarian in Stevens County, Kansas, where she combined her passion for animals with a steadfast commitment to her community. Known for her warmth and dedication, she was a loving wife, mother, and friend to many.
Karen met her husband, Joel T. McClure, when he brought his tomcat in for a procedure at the clinic, leading to their marriage on November 23, 1993, in Kim, Colorado. Karen's family was the heart of her existence, and she took immense pride in her role as a mother to their three children: Dr. Emma Sue McClure, Jay McClure, and Max McClure. Additionally, she was proud to homeschool her children for ten years, providing them with a nurturing educational environment.
Deeply involved in her faith and community activities as a member of Bethel Friends Church, Karen made significant contributions through her volunteering with the kids' club and leading the Awana Program for an impressive 23 years. Her unwavering spirit and kind heart resonated throughout her community, positively impacting the lives of countless children along the way.
Karen’s hobbies reflected her nurturing essence; she had a green thumb, enjoyed gardening, and held a special affection for dogs, cats, and goats. These simple pleasures brought her immense joy and reflected her caring nature. She actively participated in her children's events, such as 4-H, and FFA, enjoying the moments when they excelled in their projects.
