OBITUARY

IN LOVING MEMORY OF LORETTA BETTY MONTOYA

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Loretta Betty Montoya, 81, a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend to all whose lives she touched. She left us while sleeping peacefully on April 11, 2025, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Loretta was born on October 17, 1943, in Morning Glory (Huerfano County). She was the daughter of the late Felix Anthony Pino and Della Ida Valdez Pino. Loretta resided in Walsenburg, Colorado for most of her life.

After graduating from Huerfano County High School in 1964, she married Charles Montoya of Walsenburg and was blessed with two daughters and a son. She worked at Huerfano Memorial Hospital as a Dietician for 17 years before retiring. Loretta was a devout Catholic and faithfully participated and enjoyed teaching the word of God to her children, grandchildren and friends.

Loretta was predeceased by her sister, Stella (Tom) Montez, and three brothers, Jake (Sandy) Pino, Claude (Rosa) Pino and Everett Pino.

Survivors include her husband Charles Montoya of 60 years; two daughters, Della (Mike) Duran and Buffy (Ritchie) Vigil, and one son, Paul Montoya (Lynn) from Walsenburg; two sisters, Dolores Pino (Brad) Smith from Minnesota, Patricia Pino Tapia (Ernie) from Pueblo; and two brothers, Clayton Pino (Linda) from Pueblo, and Arley (Pat) Pino from California; as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Loretta was blessed to be able to enjoy 5 generations within her family, i.e., eight grandchildren, two step grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Loretta was loving, caring, supportive, and understanding, but above all, she was fun-loving, quick witted, and always managed to make us laugh with her keen sense of humor. She cherished the family bond and was a source of strength and inspiration for her entire family.

Please join us as we honor Loretta’s memory at a Memorial Funeral Service to be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Walsenburg, on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Rosary is at 10:00AM and Mass is at 10:30AM. Reception follows at Delaney Hall behind the church, at 121 E. 7th Street, from 12:00PM to 2:00PM. Johnson-Romero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
