Obituary

Leonard Andrew Weiss Jr. of Ordway, Colorado passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025 at the Sangre De Cristo Hospice House in Pueblo, Colorado. Leonard was born on November 10, 1938 to Leonard Weiss Sr. and Juanita Faye (Maier) Weiss.

Leonard attended school in Sugar City, Colorado. He studied all 12 years there and graduated from high school in 1956. He married Rita Kay Wren on October 22, 1958 and they had five children. They spent their lives living near Ordway, Colorado. Leonard worked for American Crystal Sugar, Crowley County Road and Bridge, Town of Ordway and retired from the Colorado Department of Corrections in September 2014.

He was an active member of the Crowley County Volunteer Fire and Ambulance service for more than 30 years. Many of those years he served as the fire chief and helped many community members. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed camping with his family. He was always found working on different types of projects – he was “a jack of all trades”. He loved spending time with his grandchildren rather it be watching them at sporting events, helping them with a school project, or taking them for ATV rides in the mountains, he was a hardworking and loving family man.

Leonard is survived by his wife Rita; his four children, Rick (Carol) Weiss of Rocky Ford, Colorado, Danelda (Bobby) Franks of Ordway, Colorado, Theresa (Joe) Gruntorad of Ordway, Colorado, and Sharon (Bill) Allen of Lakewood, Colorado. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, infant sister, Zelda Lee, son, Dwayne Weiss, grandson, Jeremy Franks, brother and sister-in-law, Norris (Arla) Weiss, sisters and brother-in-law’s, Dorothy (Ken) Bateman, and Carolyn (Jack) McGehee.

Per Leonard’s wishes no service will be held.
