La Junta Man Arrested After Assaulting Officer and Stealing Police Vehicle

On January 9, 2025, around 9:50 pm, officers with the La Junta Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that belonged to 60-year-old John Garcia who stopped the vehicle in North La Junta.

Garcia fought with an officer who was trying to detain him and then stole the officer's police car.

Garcia was taken into custody a short time later in Bent County and booked into jail on charges of Assault in the 2nd degree, resisting arrest, motor vehicle theft, and vehicular eluding.

The La Junta Police Department would like to thank the Otero County Sheriff's Office, Bent County Sheriff's Office, and Colorado State Patrol for their help.

All Parties are Considered Innocent Until Proven Guilty in a Court of Law.
