On January 8, 2025, at approximately 5:22 PM, the Springfield Police Department, in coordination with local emergency services, responded to a two-vehicle accident near the intersection of 5th Avenue and Main Street.

The Springfield Police Department reminds all drivers of the importance of carrying proof of a valid insurance policy that is immediately available upon request. If you are involved in an accident or contacted by law enforcement for a traffic-related incident, you are legally required to provide proof of insurance.

Failure to provide proof of insurance can result in a summons to court, which may include fines or other penalties.

While many drivers now rely on electronic copies of their insurance on mobile devices, it’s essential to plan for potential obstacles such as lack of cellular service or a dead phone battery. To ensure you're prepared, consider keeping a physical insurance card in your vehicle as a backup or downloading an offline copy of your policy to your phone.
