Obituary
Marjorie “Marge” A. (Bowser) Britton was born Wednesday, April 10, 1940, in Swink, Colorado. She was the daughter of Sarah J. (Thompson) Bowser and Lane C. Bowser. Marjorie gained her angel wings Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at the age of 84.
Marjorie served in the women’s army corp. before becoming a wife and mother. Throughout her lifetime Marge worked in restaurants, for Bell Telephone Company, and several other small businesses including owning her own café in downtown Colo Springs for a time. She also had many interests including being a lifelong member of the Eagles, having served as a state president during 1997 – 1998. She enjoyed reading, crochet, sewing, bowling, and camping and hunting with her husband and family. Traveling to Eagles events, visiting friends and family were also activities that Marge enjoyed.
Along with being an Eagle, Marge was also a member of the Elks in La Junta. She especially enjoyed the Christmas parties for the children of the Elks. While she never had a lot with raising 7 children of her own, Marge was always helping with charitable dinners, and other activities to help others. While living in Colorado Springs Marge annually helped with the Thanksgiving dinners at the Aerie 3260 and promoted other dinners throughout the year.
Marjorie is survived by her daughters Frankey (Myron) Schmidt, Ingalls, KS, Carol (Duncan) Chamblin of Manzanola; Virginia Cowell of La Junta; and sons Patrick Peterson, and Richard Karle, both of Colorado Springs; her step-daughter Lisa Britton Farmer, and step-son Kenneth (Annette) Britton both of Arkansas; 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson; her sister Nancy (Bob) Hancock of Albuquerque; and many nieces and nephews scattered across the country. She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, 6 sisters; her daughter DeEdra Roberts, her son James Karle; her infant grandson Derick; and her husbands James Karle Sr, and Stanley Britton.
Graveside service will be held April 10, 2025, at Fairview Cemetery in La Junta, CO with Pastor John Dell of First Christian Church of Rocky Ford officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the La Junta Elks, 119 Colorado Ave.; La Junta, CO 81050, or the Eagles Auxiliary 3260, PO Box 8266; Colorado Springs, CO 80933.
