Alamosa County Sheriff's Office Investigating Attempted Homicide
On Saturday, July 4, 2026, at approximately 10:15 a.m., deputies with the Alamosa County Sheriff's Office responded to the 5400 block of Stanley Road following a report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, deputies located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center for initial treatment before being transferred to a Front Range hospital for additional medical care.
Deputies contacted an adult male at the scene, identified as Cletus Rinebarger, a 68-year-old Alamosa County resident. Following an investigation, Rinebarger was transported to the Alamosa County Sheriff's Office for questioning. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Alamosa County Detention Center on the following charges:
Attempted First Degree Murder (Class 2 Felony)
First Degree Assault (Class 3 Felony)
Based on the investigation, this appears to be an isolated incident. There is no known threat to the public at this time.
