Rocky Ford Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire in Otero County, Two Hospitalized

ROCKY FORD, Colo. (June 12, 2026) — The Rocky Ford Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Friday afternoon that destroyed a barn/outbuilding in rural Otero County and resulted in two people being transported to the hospital.

According to fire officials, crews were dispatched at approximately 3 p.m. on June 12 to a reported structure fire in the 29000 Block of County Road 20.75.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a barn/outbuilding fully engulfed in flames. The structure was declared a total loss as crews worked to contain and extinguish the fire.

During firefighting operations, responders identified one injured individual, an elderly woman, who suffered minor burns. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

A second person was taken to Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center (AVRMC) for treatment related to smoke inhalation.

Rocky Ford Fire Chief Ray Gonzales reported that the cause of the fire remains under investigation. However, he indicated the fire is not considered suspicious, and no foul play is suspected.

No additional injuries were reported.

The Rocky Ford Fire Department has not released further details regarding the extent of property damage or the identities of those involved.
