Colorado Funeral Home Owner Carie Hallford Sentenced to 30 Years in Case Involving 191 Bodies
Carie Hallford has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for her role in the Return to Nature Funeral Home case, where the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) discovered 191 bodies that were intended for cremation. Her former husband, Jon Hallford, was previously sentenced to 40 years.
CBI Director Armando Saldate III described the sentence as an unequivocal condemnation of her actions.
The CBI served as the lead investigative agency, responding to what officials described as a scene of unimaginable trauma and heartbreak. The case stemmed from the Hallfords’ betrayal of trust and fraudulent actions against grieving families.
Through an extensive investigation, the CBI—working in collaboration with the FBI, the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, and multiple local and state agencies—secured more than 200 felony charges against the Hallfords. Officials say the outcome reflects the dedication, professionalism, and coordination of all agencies involved.
While authorities acknowledge that no sentence can fully undo the harm caused, they hope the ruling brings a measure of accountability and peace to the affected families.
The CBI reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing justice and ensuring the safety of Colorado communities.
