Brush Fire East of La Junta Quickly Contained; Crews Credit Rapid Multi-Agency Response

2.6-Acre Brush Fire Near Hwy 194 Started by Accidental Spark
At approx 12:29pm today, a reported brush fire was toned out in the area of 30916 Hwy 194 East of La Junta. Upon arrival of the first crews they found a fast moving brush fire in trees and tamarisks by a wash pond for concrete.
Brush trucks began aggressively attacking all sides of the fire to contain the edges and flanks.
Once secured crews went to work using hose lines and saws and hand tools extinguishing the fire. We were assisted with auto aid from DFPC Battalion 34 and Engine 34.
Mutual aid was requested for a type 6 truck from Rocky Ford Fire and a tender and type 3 truck from Cheraw fire. Total acreage burned was approx 2.6 acres.
Cause of the fire was accidental from a crew outside cutting pipe and a spark flew toward the grass and started the fire. OCSO assisted and Otero County Emergency Manager assisted as well.
