Fire Chief Highlights Dedication of Kiowa County Volunteer Firefighters Amid Recent Incidents

There’s been a lot of noise surrounding our fire district lately. Questions, opinions, and uncertainty have made their way into conversations across our community—Transparency and accountability matter, and those conversations have their place.

But today, i want to bring the focus back to something just as important—the men and women who show up when the tones drop.

Recently, our volunteer firefighters responded to a call involving a car hauler trailer fire that quickly spread, destroying a vehicle and burning approximately 10 acres of grass. It was a fast-moving situation that required quick decisions, teamwork, and hours on the line. Thanks to their efforts, the fire was contained and prevented from becoming something much worse.

Another call they responded to recently was a single vehicle accident including one fatality. These type of calls burn scars into the minds of those on scene.

These firefighters are your neighbors. They are parents, employees, ranchers, farmers, friends, colleagues—people who leave their dinner tables, their jobs, and their families to answer a call for help. They don’t ask about politics or headlines when they respond. They don’t stop to consider controversy or uncertainty. They simply go.

No matter what challenges exist around us, one thing has not changed:

the integrity, loyalty, and commitment of the individuals wearing the gear and stepping onto the trucks.

I am proud of the work they continue to do—quietly, consistently, and without recognition.

Thank you to our firefighters for your continued dedication. And thank you to our community for your support—it means more than you know. I encourage you all to join us for our monthly meetings if you have any questions, concerns, or compliments. We have a public input section at all district meetings.
