Accidental Kitchen Fire Contained by La Junta Fire Department at Cimarron Avenue Residence

At approx 733pm this evening, LJFD responded to a reported structure fire at 1021 Cimarron.

Upon arrival of the first crews, they were told the kitchen was on fire and moderate smoke was seen coming from the single story house.

Crews made a quick offensive attack to knock down the fire and kept it contained to the kitchen area.

Overhaul began and crews removed the burned cabinets and wall to make sure there was not fire extension. Ventilation was completed as well to remove all the smoke.

The cause of the fire is listed as accidental, as a member of the house was cooking and hot oil ignited and stated the wall and cabinets on fire. Crews cleared the scene.
