Obituary
Mary Lou Coffield, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, at the age of 95, in Pueblo West, Colorado. Born on January 16, 1931, in Osawatomie, Kansas to George and Beulah (Smythe) Burns.
As a young woman, Mary Lou moved to California with her father and siblings. This is where her path crossed with that of her future husband, James Coffield, who was serving in the Navy. Their love blossomed, leading to their marriage on February 20, 1953, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Shortly after their union, Mary Lou moved to Swink, Colorado, while awaiting her husband’s honorable discharge from the Navy. Mary Lou and James lived on a farm outside of Swink from 1953 until 1971 where they built a life filled with love and laughter. Following their time on the farm, the couple moved to Lands End Ranch, where they enjoyed the beauty of nature and the joy of being together. Mary Lou remained a steadfast partner to James until his passing on June 10, 2009. Following his death, she continued to embody strength and resilience, living at the ranch until 2020 when her health necessitated a move to Pueblo West to live with her devoted daughter, Jaime and her husband, Tom. Mary Lou took great pride in her family, who were her greatest treasures.
An active member of her community, Mary Lou was involved with the Las Animas Church of Christ, the Red Hat Society, and the Garden Club, and in later years Southwest Church of Christ, where she connected with others and shared her passions. She loved to read, cross stitch, work on word searches, and even enjoyed bowling in her spare time. Her hobbies not only brought her joy but also allowed her to form lasting friendships with those around her. Mary Lou’s life was a testament to the importance of family, friendship, and community. She touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering support.
She is survived by her children, Doug (Joanie) Shuck of Leavenworth, Kansas; Julie Jones of Swink, Colorado; Bud Coffield of Las Animas, Colorado; and Jaime (Tom) Uher of Pueblo West, Colorado. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Coffield; son, Jon Coffield; one sister, two brothers, and her daughter-in-law, Archie Coffield.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Las Animas Church of Christ in care of Valley Funeral & Cremation, P.O. Box 431, Las Animas, Colorado 81054.
