Obituary
Cheryl Sue (Crosson) Butcher, age 80, of Cheraw, Colorado, passed away peacefully at her home on January 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Cheryl was born on July 28, 1945, in La Junta, Colorado, to Paul William Crosson and Norma Elsie (Daniels) Crosson. She spent her life in Cheraw, where she raised her family and built deep roots within her community.
Cheryl dedicated her professional life to public service. After earning degrees in Criminology, she retired as Chief Probation Officer for the 16th Judicial District, a role she carried out with integrity, compassion, and strength.
Creativity was central to Cheryl’s life. She was an accomplished artist and craftswoman, enjoying commissioned oil painting, scrap-booking, quilting, drawing, basket weaving, and creating meaningful keepsakes for her family. She was well known and deeply loved within the Arkansas Valley art community.
Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life. Cheryl had a strong love for God and her church and found joy in playing the piano during services. One of her greatest pleasures was spending time with her grandchildren especially playing games & sharing laughter.
Cheryl is survived by her husband of 63 years, Stanley William Butcher; her children, Timothy Butcher, Robert (Julie) Butcher, and Jennifer (Michael) Montanez; six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; and her brother, Frank (Barbara) Crosson. She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul William Crosson and Norma Elsie Crosson; her brother, John William Crosson; and her daughter-in-law, Norma (Sams) Butcher.
Celebration of Life services will be disclosed at a later date.
