Obituary

Beloved Father, Brother, and Friend

Phillip Max Galvez of Farisita, Colorado, passed away peacefully at his home on January 10, 2026, at the age of 73. Born July 1, 1952, in Rye, Colorado, to Delfino and Belinda Galvez. He grew up and spent his childhood in Walsenburg, Colorado, where he attended school and became a standout athlete in a variety of different sports throughout his middle and high school years. In 1966, the family moved to Farisita, where he enjoyed his teenage years working, hunting, and living on his mother's family ranch. In 1970, he graduated from John Mall High School and attended CU Boulder, and continued his education at Pueblo Community College, earning certifications in Computers, Machining, and Mental health.

Throughout his life, Phillip was dedicated to his work and community. He began his career with the State of Colorado in 1984 and retired from the Department of Transportation in 2009 with 25 years of service. He cherished his time in the Gardner area so deeply that he returned, choosing to spend the remainder of his life and retirement in the place he loved most.

Phillip was drawn to the beauty of the Huerfano Valley and its surrounding mountains. He found joy in the outdoors—whether hunting, fishing, hiking, or simply working on and caring for his property. He was a respected hunter and fisherman and was always eager to share his love of the outdoors with family and friends. Phillip's interests were varied and vibrant. He collected hats and was an enthusiastic sports fan, cheering on the Colorado Rockies, Denver Broncos, and especially the Denver Nuggets.

Phillip also loved to travel, with vacations holding a special place in his heart. He enjoyed trips to Cripple Creek and casinos in New Mexico, frequenting hot springs throughout Colorado and neighboring states. Phillip loved and cared for many pets during his time in Farisita, a testament to his patience and devotion. He will be fondly remembered for his generous spirit, his love for family, and his commitment to his community. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Phillip is survived by his children Charles (Molly) Galvez of Pueblo, Colorado, Nicholette Galvez of Gardner Colorado, his siblings; Marcella Garcia Longmont Colorado, Dave (Susan) Galvez of Pueblo, Edward (Katharyn) Galvez of Canon City, Colorado, and Leo (Mary) Galvez of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Pat Galvez of Lafayette, Colorado; Friend, Companion and Mother of his children Barbara Galvez; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Father and Mother, Delifino and Belinda Galvez; siblings Mary Galvez, Donald Galvez, Karen Galvez, and Paul Galvez. May he rest peacefully, reunited with those he loved, and forever watching over the family he held so dear.

A 10:00 A.M. Rosary followed a 10:30 Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the Sacred Heart Church in Gardner, Colorado.

Arrangements are entrusted to the loving care of the Johnson-Romero Family Funeral Home.
