Signs It Is Time For A Massage

Note: this should not be taken as medical advice. If you have health problems or concerns you should call your doctor and schedule an appointment with them.  If your healthcare provider has told you massage therapy is not recommended for you, I advise you to follow your doctor’s orders.

Massage therapy is good for everybody and every body, it is always a good time for a massage. Our bodies are good at letting us know what they need. Though we do not always know how to listen to our bodies. Is yours telling you it is time for a massage? Here are some signs it is time for a massage.

1. You're stressed out

2. You're sleeping badly

3. Your joints hurt

4. Your muscles hurt

5. You're working hard

6. You're having headaches

7. You're down and depressed

8. You're overdue for a massage

Are you stressed more than normal? It is the Christmas season now, so I am guessing yes. But the season aside, life is full of stress.  We have everyday worries that way on us, and this stress affects both our physical and mental health. If your stress is on overload and your normal stress relief is not working as well as it should, it is a good idea to schedule yourself a massage. A massage is a good way to physically reduce your stress levels, bringing down the emotional stress too.

Has your sleep been disrupted, or you're not sleeping as well as you know you should? Bad sleep comes with some chapters of our lives. When our sleep is disrupted it can disrupt our whole lives. It affects the way we do our jobs, and how we manage relationships. And, bad sleep can lead to bad health. Getting a massage will help you relax and reduce the stress levels in your body and promote healthy sleep, improving your overall health.

Raking leaves, shoveling snow, setting in bleachers, or working overtime hours are things that can put extra stress on our bodies. Working hard feels good when the job is complete, but can leave your body hurting and you moving slowly. When we overwork ourselves it is a good time to schedule a massage. Having a massage after a big physical job resets you so you can take on what comes next.

Having pain in your neck, shoulder, back and hips makes doing everyday tasks more difficult. Pain makes enjoying life harder for you. Stiffness and pain is your body's way of telling you it is time to get a massage. Massage therapy is a good natural pain reliever for the body.  Pain in our joints is just one way the body says it is time for a massage. Overall muscle pain is the body screaming it is time for a massage. A good full body massage is a great way to remove sore  muscles.

Along with sore, tight muscles, and stress can come regular headaches. Headaches can be caused for a number of reasons. Like stress, or the over use of muscles, to the lighting in our homes and offices, or even your water intake. If you find yourself getting regular headaches, it may be your body's way asking for a massage.

Are you feeling down and depressed?  Along with stress, bad sleep, and pain can come depressed moods.  Have you ever noticed when you are feeling down how a simple touch (like a hug) can improve your mood? Getting a good massage can have the same effect on a person and body. Massage releases the feel good chemicals in the brain, as well as relieving the pain and soreness your body is holding. Thus massage therapy can really boost your mood.

When is the last time you have had a massage? A regular massage appointment is good for the body. It helps promote healthy sleep, it reduces stress (emotional, mental, and physical), it relieves pain, and stiffness, making regular headaches lessen, and helps the body heal and recover from over use. So, if it has been a month or more since your last massage therapy appointment you should consider scheduling one soon.

Remember massage therapy is good for everybody and for every body. So, listen to your body for the signs and schedule an appointment for a massage today.

Reminder, that this should not be taken as medical advice. If you have health problems or concerns you should call your doctor and schedule an appointment with them.  If your healthcare provider has told you massage therapy is not recommended for you, I advise you to follow your doctor’s orders.
