Colorado State Patrol Reports: Major Pileups Shut Down I-70 in Mountain Corridor; Up to 50 Vehicles Involved

Description: Multiple icy-weather pileups involving nearly 50 vehicles have closed sections of I-70 near Glenwood Springs and Gypsum. CSP reports no injuries but no ETA to reopen.
Multiple Crashes Have Closed the Road Along Interstate 70
(Colorado) – Today, starting at 11:28 a.m., Colorado State Patrol responded to multiple crashes with vehicle pileups on Interstate 70 near milepost 119 in Garfield County east of Glenwood Springs and again at milepost 130 in Eagle County west of Gypsum. Mountain conditions on the I-70 corridor are icy and there is low visibility.
Initial reports show near milepost 119, that crash calls came in at 11:42 a.m., and first responders found a pile-up consisting of approximately 30 vehicles. Colorado State Patrol and the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office are working on clearing the road. Currently, there is no estimated time for the road to reopen at milepost 119.
Then near milepost 130, reports came in at 11:28 a.m., this pile-up consisted of approximately 20 vehicles that were involved in a crash.
Colorado State Patrol, as well as Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, are working on reopening the road. All vehicles involved in the crash scene around milepost 130 have been removed from the road, and plows will be going through the area. Once the road is suitable for travel, emergency vehicles will begin leading vehicles through the area at slow speeds. Reported visibility for the area is approximately 500 feet.
Currently, the road is closed eastbound from milepost 116. And the road is open westbound from milepost 130.
Both pile ups were only property damage crashes, no injuries were reported.
