(Teller County, COLO) – Colorado State Patrol Troopers were dispatched to the area of Highway 24 at milepost 270, just east of Florissant, at 5:44 a.m. for a report of a multi vehicle crash. The road was reported to be icy.
The initial investigation shows a Ram 1500 was traveling westbound on Highway 24. The Ram began to slide into the eastbound lanes and hit an eastbound Hyundai Elantra head on. Immediately after, a Jeep Gladiator traveling eastbound slid and hit the rear of the Elantra. A Ford F250 traveling eastbound struck the Gladiator's rear with its front left side, causing the F250 to go off the eastbound shoulder. The F250 continued its path of travel, striking the Elantra’s left rear with the front right of the vehicle.
A road closure was put in place between Teller County Road 1 and Teller County Road 42, with traffic being diverted to each County Road. The driver of the Ram was transported to an area hospital by ambulance, while the driver of the Elantra was airlifted from the scene. The driver who was airlifted was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The El Paso County Coroner's Office will release the name of the deceased once proper next of kin notifications have been made. The road was reopened at 9:50 a.m.
