Springfield Police Department Reports 53% Theft Case Clearance Rate — Well Above Colorado’s 16% State Average

Description: The Springfield Police Department reports a 53% theft case clearance rate for 2025 — more than triple Colorado’s state average. Officers credit proactive patrols, community response, and commitment to improving theft investigations.
Theft Case Clearance Rate Report
So far this year, the Springfield Police Department has handled approximately 39 theft reports. Of those, approximately 21 have been cleared, giving us a local clearance rate of about 53%.
For comparison, statewide data from 2024 shows 109,797 theft cases reported across Colorado, with an overall clearance rate of 16.43%.
Not every theft case ends with property recovered or charges filed and we’re the first to admit we’re not perfect. We know there are still theft cases that remain unsolved, and those continue to drive us to do better. Every case is a reminder that we can always improve how we respond and investigate.
In some larger jurisdictions across Colorado, nonviolent property crimes such as theft or vehicle break-ins may not even receive an in-person law enforcement response due to the sheer volume of calls for service. Victims are sometimes directed to complete an online report and sometimes that's just for insurance purposes. Here in Springfield, that’s not the standard. When you report a theft, you’ll usually still see an officer show up, take your statement, and look for evidence.
To further reduce thefts and improve our response, the department has made several proactive adjustments, including randomizing officer patrol schedules, increasing neighborhood visibility, and conducting more frequent traffic/pedestrian contacts and late-night patrols on side streets. These efforts are designed to deter criminal activity and increase the chances of catching offenders in the act.
We’re proud of how far we’ve come, but we’re not satisfied. We’ll keep working to improve, learning from each case, solved or unsolved.
