Today, at approximately 8:20 a.m., the Springfield Police Department received a call reporting that a stolen vehicle from Amarillo, Texas, had possibly been located at the Springfield Truck Stop on U.S. Highway 287.
The reporting party, who is the vehicle owner’s family member, explained that they had received a fraud alert when a card connected to the vehicle’s owner was declined at the truck stop.
Springfield officers responded and were assisted by deputies from the Baca County Sheriff’s Office. Shortly after arrival, officers observed the vehicle leaving the lot. A traffic stop was conducted near the U.S. 160/287 junction, and the driver was detained without incident. The driver, an adult female, was arrested for motor vehicle theft.
The vehicle, a silver Infiniti SUV, was towed from the scene and secured pending release arrangements with the Amarillo Police Department and the registered owner.
We thank the reporting party, Springfield Truck Stop staff, deputies from the Baca County Sheriff’s Office, and Woller Towing for their assistance. No injuries occurred.
