Juvenile Suspect Identified in La Junta Structure Fire at 618 Colorado Ave


Description: On Sept. 4, 2025, the La Junta Fire Department and La Junta Police Department responded to a fully engulfed structure fire at an abandoned building on 618 Colorado Ave. What began as a reported tree fire quickly escalated into a fully engulfed structure fire. Thanks to the hard work of first responders, utility crews, and support staff, the fire was contained and no lives were lost. Through investigation, a juvenile suspect was identified. Juvenile Suspect Identified in La Junta Structure Fire at 618 Colorado Ave

On September 4th, 2025, around 7:10 pm, the La Junta Fire Department (LJFD) and the La Junta Police Department (LJPD) responded to a call for a fire.

The LJFD had initially been told that a tree was on fire, but upgraded the type of call to a structure fire after finding the abandoned building located at 618 Colorado Ave in La Junta, CO was fully engulfed.

First responders, utility workers, and other support staff worked hard to put out the fire and protect lives and property.

The LJPD, along with the LJFD, initiated an investigation into the cause and origin of the fire.

Through investigation, a juvenile suspect was identified, and charges for causing the fire will be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office for their review.
