Funeral service will be at Seibert Community Church on October 11th at 10:30 a.m. with burial at the Seibert Cemetery following the service.
Obituary
Sylvia “LaNell” (Mason) Dunn was born in Beaver Oklahoma to Clifford and Averil (Swiger) Mason on March 5, 1941. She was the youngest of three children. She had two brothers, Max and Dale.
She grew up in Anderson Missouri and the family later moved to Pea Ridge Arkansas where they had a chicken farm. The family then moved to Seibert where she attended school and married Harold Dykstra. Born to this union were five children, Rick, Carmen, Kathy, LaVon, and Robert.
She was a beautician by profession and had a beauty/barber shop with her brother Dale in Stratton, Colorado for several years. She later moved to Longmont where she had a beauty shop for 2 years then moved back to Seibert working as a beautician.
She married Rex Dunn and they moved to Exeter Missouri and lived there for 3 years before moving to St. Francis Kansas. She worked at the St. Francis Hospital in charge of Housekeeping for several years before retiring.
After Rex’s death she moved back to Seibert. She loved dogs and later started her own dog breeding business with her daughter Carmen and opened a thrift store. She liked to crochet and did numerous craft projects. She collected eagles and musical carousels.
She moved to Aspen Leaf Assisted Living in Flagler, Colorado in 2018 due to declining health.
She went to be with her lord and savior surrounded by family on August 28, 2025th at Lincoln Community Hospital in Hugo Colorado.
She leaves behind her son Rick Dykstra, daughter Carmen (Reid) Huckeba, daughter Kathy (Jeff) Richie, daughter LaVon (Doug) Elleffson, son Robert (Lani) Dykstra, brother Dale Mason; grandsons Derek (Elyse) Dykstra, Grant Dykstra, Dustin Huckeba; granddaughters Jennifer (Richie) Flynn, Kristin Richie, Amanda Huckeba; great-grandchildren Amber, Tysa and Rhone Flynn, Chloe and Autumn Dykstra, Quintyn Harvie, Kashius and Remmi Fleming; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is proceeded in death by her husband Rex Dunn, parents Clifford and Averil Mason, brother Max Mason, granddaughter Amber Richie, niece Linda Mason, Sister-in-law Jean (Smith) McGriff, and Sister-in-law Jeanene (Kneedler) Mason.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to the Seibert Community Ambulance Service. Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
