Suspected Arson Sparks Wildfire Near Highway 50 in Cañon City; Suspect in Custody

At approximately 9:30 pm last night (7-15-25) Canon City firefighters were called to the area of the Four Mile Creek Bridge and US Highway 50 for a wildland fire. 

This area is near the Maverick Gas Station and Hampton Inn.  Upon arrival, firefighters found multiple separate fires burning in the creek bottom involving trees, brush, and slash piles.

Firefighters were able to contain the fires to their area of origin with less than one acre total burned. 

The cause of the fires appears intentional and continues to be under investigation. The Canon City Police Department has taken a suspect into custody.
