Obituary
It is with deep love and respect that we announce the passing of Gilbert Rodriguez at the age of 93 in Rocky Ford. He was a devoted father, grandfather, veteran, and community member.
Born in Lamar to John Rodriguez and Petra Piaz, Gilbert lived a life of service, strength, and unwavering commitment to family and country. At just 19 years old, he bravely served in the United States Army as an Airborne Trooper during the Korean War, completing two combat jumps. Following his military service, Gilbert dedicated 26 years to the Army Depot, later continuing his legacy of leadership as Commander of the American Legion, where he also volunteered weekly at bingo events.
Gilbert's greatest joy came from spending time with his beloved grandchildren, and his home was always filled with warmth, stories, and laughter.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, John Rodriguez and Petra Piaz; his daughter, Cathy Dearcos; and nine siblings.
Gilbert is survived by his loving siblings Johnny (Margarita) Rodriguez and Pete (Lupe) Rodriguez; his sons Ron Rodriguez, Ken (Sally) Rodriguez, and Robert (Lorraine) Rodriguez; Larry Dearcos along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Gilbert also shared a special bond with his dear friend Virginia Rodriguez and her family.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Pioneer Nursing Home for their compassionate care. Gilbert’s legacy of honor, love, and service will live on in all who knew and cherished him.
