Obituary
Janice Mae (Bishop) Hebberd was born to Orla (Bunt) and Lucy Bishop in Oregon on March 11, 1941. The Bishop family returned to Baca County for good in 1944 to grow broomcorn. Janice attended Walsh High School, graduating in 1958.
Janice started a 67-year marriage to Adin Smith Hebberd in 1957. To this union, three children were born: Rita in 1958, Kyle in 1963, followed by Boyd in 1965.
Janice grew up on a farm and spent her childhood milking cows, raising animals, and doing the hundreds of other chores that have to be done on a farm. She continued to enjoy farming as an adult, helping her dad and Uncle Short. In addition to farm work, Janice held many jobs in her 84 years; cook at the Get and Go Cafe, line worker at the broomcorn factory, dietary director at the Walsh hospital, teller at Colorado State Bank, CNA and activities assistant at the Walsh Healthcare Center, bus driver for the school, and librarian at Walsh Town Library. She approached each of these jobs with a pleasant can-do attitude, but her first passion was bowling. She traveled all across the United States, competing in 50 National Bowling tournaments, receiving her 50-year pin, and 55 state bowling tournaments.
Over the years, Janice’s love of bowling came to be rivaled and then surpassed by her love for her grandkids, Angie, Matt, Tisha, Chaz, and Ethan, and her great-grandkids, Breckin and Lainie Hume, Saygan, Adin, Vaelyn, Evryn, Ronan, and Sloan Trusty, Reed, and Rhett Voigts, Dylann and Jameson Hebberd.
When not bowling or spoiling grands and greats, she enjoyed music, chocolate, playing marbles and cards with friends, and occasional trips to the nearest casino.
Janice will be remembered as a kind and caring person. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bunt and Lucy Bishop, her sisters, Jane (infant), Virginia Bitner, and her brother, Donald Bishop. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Adin Hebberd, older sister Jean Kline, and younger sisters Shirley Anderson and Donna Caldwell, daughter Rita Piper, sons Kyle (Michelle) Hebberd and Boyd (Tim) Hebberd, grandchildren Angie (Cody) Hume, Matt (Amy) Trusty, Tisha Voigts, Chaz (Vanessa) Hebberd, Ethan (Chrysantha) Hebberd, and her 12 great-grandchildren.
