Colorado State Patrol Leads Enforcement Operation to Address ‘Reckless Riders’

(Golden, CO) — On July 5, 2025, the Colorado State Patrol partnered with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office in conducting a joint traffic enforcement operation targeting reckless motorcycle driving behavior. With the assistance of the Colorado State Patrol Aircraft Unit, over 45 vehicles, including 25 motorcycles, were contacted. Of those, 11 were contacted for driving 20 mph or more over the posted speed limit.  Thirteen out of the 45 vehicles did not have license plates. Three drivers were pulled over due to reckless driving, and one motorcycle rider was taken into custody for Felony Eluding.  

Due to the significant public safety risk, troopers on the ground did not pursue the motorcycle rider involved in the felony eluding incident. The motorcyclist was observed traveling at speeds of 120 mph on C-470, using the right shoulder to pass vehicles, and weaving through multiple lanes of traffic. The Colorado State Patrol aircraft maintained visual contact with the rider. They tracked the rider after he parked at a business establishment in Golden, where troopers and deputies took the rider into custody.  

We encourage all riders and drivers to avoid making a decision that could escalate a traffic stop into something far more serious. Running from law enforcement not only endangers others but can also result in severe legal consequences.

The following footage was captured from the trooper's dashcam, which documented the initial, attempted contact with the rider. There is also footage from the CSP Aircraft unit involved in this operation.

This footage showcases the resources available on land and in the air, as well as how they are used safely to apprehend a motorcycle rider who thought he could evade law enforcement. In this case, what could have been a routine traffic stop resulted in a felony charge.
