Obituary
Cornell Monroe of Ordway passed away at his home at the age of 96. Cornell was born in Madison, IN to Royal and Grace Monroe. He joined the Army and made a career of it. He was stationed in Korea, Japan and France. While stationed in Japan he met his wife Taneko. They went back to Indiana after he retired from the Army. He first worked as a manager in a munitions factory. He eventually started working in the feed lots and they started slowly moving their way west. They settled in Ordway. He was proud to have retired as a Sgt Major, he was awarded the Oak Leaf Cluster. Cornell was a very humble man. He hardly spoke about his military service but would tell humorous stories of his time in the service. He was a very kind and gentle soul.
Cornell is survived by his 4 children: Sarah Monroe of Colorado Springs, Roy (Nita) Monroe of Walsenburg, Susan Monroe of Colorado Springs, Margaret (Greg) Dereus of Ft. Collins, 3 grandchildren, 1 sister: Helen Thomas of Hanover, IN. He was preceded in death by his wife Taneko, 2 sisters: Anna Margaret and Kirby, as well as 3 brothers: Lynn, Carroll, Norman.
Services will be held in Indiana at a later date.
Bellwood Ustick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
