Fatal Incident Outside Colorado State Patrol Pueblo Office
(PUEBLO, COLO) - Earlier today, at approximately 1:23 p.m., Pueblo Police Department officers attempted to contact an alleged shoplifter at Famous Footwear located at 5765 N. Elizabeth Street. Upon contact, the suspect fled on foot, prompting pursuit by officers both on foot and in a patrol vehicle through the area behind nearby businesses.
During the pursuit, the suspect ran towards the front entrance of the Colorado State Patrol Pueblo Office, brandished a handgun, and after failing to comply with officers’ commands to drop the weapon, the suspect was struck by a vehicle driven by a responding Pueblo Police officer.
Emergency medical aid was administered at the scene; however, the suspect was pronounced deceased. The Pueblo County Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased suspect once proper notifications have been made.
The 10th Judicial District Critical Response Team (CIRT) has been activated, and the Colorado State Patrol will be leading the ongoing investigation into this incident.
