Pursuit Ends in Head-On Crash

7 were transported to the hospital

(WALSENBURG, COLO) – At approximately 5:41 p.m. on June 2, the Colorado State Patrol responded to an injury crash on Interstate 25 near milepost 48. The crash occurred during an active pursuit by the Walsenburg Police Department involving a black 2008 Nissan Altima.

Prior to the crash, a Colorado State Patrol Trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the 2008 Nissan Altima for speeding. The Nissan Altima failed to yield, and the Trooper did not engage in a pursuit.

Walsenburg Police later engaged in a pursuit with the same vehicle, which resulted in a crash. The Nissan Altima crossed the median on I-25 and collided head-on with a southbound 2018 Dodge Durango.

As a result of this crash, a Walsenburg Police Officer was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The two occupants of the Nissan Altima were transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries, and the four occupants of the Dodge Durango were transported to a local area hospital for minor to moderate injuries.

This crash is currently under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit.
