Colorado Parks and Wildlife seeks LGBTQ+ Advocate for Outdoor Equity Grant Board

DENVER — Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is filling a vacancy for a Board member responsible for the governance of the Outdoor Equity Grant Program (OEGP). Applicants with experience in increasing equity for LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or Queer or Questioning) individuals can apply to join the Outdoor Equity Grant Board until June 20, 2025.

The Board Member Application and additional application resources are posted on the Outdoor Equity Grant Board webpage on CPW’s website.

The OEGP is funded with Colorado Lottery proceeds and allocates funding for initiatives that focus on increasing access to the outdoors for youth and families from communities traditionally underrepresented in outdoor recreation and conservation. The OEGP Board strategically invests in organizations dedicated to breaking barriers and creating inclusive opportunities for all to enjoy and appreciate the natural wonders of Colorado.

Since its inception, the grant program has distributed over $8.5 million over four funding cycles. Starting in 2026, the board will distribute up to $4 million annually to support outdoor education, public health, recreation and job training initiatives.

Board members have a background in contributing to the advancement of equitable and inclusive conservation and outdoor recreation opportunities in Colorado. Additionally, members should have experience working with youth, especially in the realms of outdoor education, conservation or career development.

Resumes and applications will be reviewed in partnership with the communities served by the grant. Top applicants will undergo an interview process and CPW aims to appoint someone by the end of July 2025.

The Outdoor Equity Grant Program Board has nine voting seats. The newly appointed board member will fill a vacancy for the remainder of the current appointment term through Dec. 31, 2025. After that, the member may seek re-appointment if interested. The selected Board member will begin their term in July 2025. Board members may be associated with an organization that intends to apply for a future grant, but must disclose any relationships with applicants in accordance with the board's recusal policy. Program grants will be distributed based on how an organization will impactfully create pathways for Colorado's outdoors and offer environmental and outdoor-based educational opportunities for underserved communities. Board members receive payment for each meeting they attend and are reimbursed for travel costs.
