Obituary

Jeanene Kandi (Hollis) Chesnut, 50, of Calhan, Colorado, passed away peacefully at home on May 17, 2025, after bravely battling cancer for the second time. Born on July 7, 1974, in Wichita, Kansas, Kandi brought warmth, strength, and compassion into the lives of all who knew her.

Throughout her life, Kandi was dedicated to caring for and nurturing others. She worked as a substitute teacher and a beloved Para-Professional special education teacher, where she supported students with exceptional patience and heart. She also opened her home and heart as a daycare provider, touching the lives of many children and their families with her gentle guidance and loving care. She was also the administrative assistant at the Guymon Chamber of Commerce and dedicated herself to the rodeo committee, always finding ways to serve her community with love and energy. She had a rare gift: making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved.

On May 12, 2007, Kandi married the love of her life, Scott Chesnut. Together, they built a life filled with laughter and unconditional love. Their marriage was a true partnership, grounded in deep friendship and unwavering devotion, marked by mutual support and devotion through all of life’s challenges and joys. Scott remained faithfully by Kandi’s side throughout her cancer journey, providing unwavering love and strength. He stood beside her through every trial, holding her hand in both the hardest moments and the most hopeful ones.

Kandi was preceded in death by her mother, Eva Hollis, and her mother-in-law, Sharon Chesnut. She is survived by her devoted husband, Scott Chesnut, and their daughter, Jurney Chesnut, as well as her father, Alvin Hollis, who also resides in the home.

She is also survived by her daughters, Chelsea Collins and husband Garrett Collins of Sentinel, OK, along with their children Kaiden, Kinsley, and Kennedy; and Dakota Sitton and husband Jackson Sitton of Binger, OK, and their son Cooper.

She is also remembered by her father-in-law Craig Chesnut; sister-in-law Kayla Kerl; nieces Tegan, Brecklyn, and Adams; and nephews Ty and Tate, along with many other extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.

Kandi will be remembered for her unwavering faith, selfless nature, and deep love for her family, friends and community. Her strength through adversity and her ability to find strength and joy in even the smallest moments remain an inspiration to all who knew her.
