Obituary

Rita Couch, 68, of Rockwall, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025, after a courageous nine-month battle with aggressive cancer. Born on July 28, 1956, in La Junta, Colorado, she was the beloved daughter of John and Viola Martinez. Rita was the fourth of ten children in a large, close-knit family, growing up among the love and energy of her nine siblings.

A devoted family member, Rita cherished the time spent with her loved ones. Whether sharing laughs over a cold Coors Light or enjoying outings to the casino, she found immense joy in life’s simple pleasures. Her sense of humor, unwavering strength, and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

In recent years, one of Rita's greatest joys was reconnecting with her son, Rick Stiffler. Over the past four years, they fostered a bond that brought her immense pride and happiness, demonstrating her capacity for love and resilience.

Though cancer took her far too soon, Rita faced every challenge with remarkable grace, celebrating even the smallest victories along her journey. Her spirit as a fighter inspired all who were part of her life, reminding us of the power of courage and community.

Rita is now looking down on us from heaven alongside her husband, David Couch, her parents, John and Viola Martinez, and her brother, Johnny Martinez and Baby Martinez. She is survived by her son, Rick (Drema) Stiffler, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and her eight siblings: RuthAnn (Art) Gonzales, Jess (Treasa) Martinez, Kathy (Lee) Torrez, Rose (Basil) Martinez, Jerry (Jeanette) Martinez, Carla (Andrew) Madrid, James (Peggy) Martinez, and JoAnn (Ben) Martinez, as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Rita's memory will live on in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the boundless love she gave so freely. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
