Rocky Ford Man Arrested After Pointing Firearm at Officers, Drugs Siezed

Firearm and drug related arrest.

Rocky Ford, Colo. - April 26th, 2025 - At about 02:15 A.M., a Rocky Ford Police Officer was parked at the Rocky Ford High School and meeting with Otero County Sheriff's Deputies. They observed a vehicle enter Babcock Park after park curfew. Shortly after, the Rocky Ford Officer saw a green laser on his chest. The laser then shone on the Otero Deputies.

The Otero Sheriff's Office contacted the vehicle after it left Babcock Park. A firearm with a green laser attached was located in the vehicle. Incident to arrest, officers discovered illegal narcotics.

John Mitchell (35 years old), was arrested on firearms and narcotics related charges. Mr. Mitchell is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

As we recognize National Police Week this week and remember those law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the service of their communities, let us not forget how dangerous this profession still is.

This incident serves as a reminder for all of us that even in a small city, our officers risk their lives every day they put on the uniform and serve.
