Colorado State Patrol Names the 2025 Trooper of the Year

(Colorado, Golden) – Each year, the Colorado State Patrol selects a trooper who best demonstrates outstanding work performance, initiative, leadership, character, and integrity and whose actions or performance significantly exceed expectations if they exemplify the Colorado State Patrol’s core values of Honor, Duty, and Respect.

The Colorado State Trooper of the Year is Trooper Sean Yoshimiya.

Throughout 2024, Trooper Sean Yoshimiya consistently demonstrated outstanding work performance, initiative, and leadership. His nomination highlighted his service and leadership in support of this honor. He is based out of the Castle Rock Troop Office.

Trooper Yoshimiya is a dedicated trooper who builds strong cooperative relationships with local law enforcement and public safety partners while also serving as an informal leader for his peers. He is frequently sought out by fellow troopers for advice and guidance on various issues. He is an Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) instructor, training centered on active shooter response incidents, and a firearms instructor.

As the Patrol works to increase trooper staffing across the state, Trooper Yoshimiya served as a drill instructor for all five cadet academy classes in 2024. He set an example of dedication and professionalism that will have a lasting impact on these new troopers he has mentored.

Trooper Yoshimiya did all this work while achieving the highest number of felony and misdemeanor arrests in the Castle Rock Troop. He also covered 130 crashes last year. He had the third-highest total number of traffic stops across the state and was tied for the highest number of proactive impaired driving arrests on the day shift across the state.

Trooper Yoshimiya is a dedicated member of the Castle Rock Troop and is vital to the ongoing efforts to increase traffic safety in Arapahoe, Denver, Douglas, Elbert, and Jefferson Counties. His contributions have a significant positive impact on the Colorado State Patrol and State of Colorado.
