Obituary
Charlie Apodaca, 89, of La Junta, Colorado passed away on March 19, 2025 in Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center. He was born on December 10, 1935 in La Junta to Cesario & Benina (Zamora) Apodaca.
As we reflect on our dad's life, Charlie Apodaca will be remembered as a loving father, caring, and generous person to friends and all his family. He leaves us with many cherished memories that will allow us to hold on to him forever. Born and raised in La Junta, Charlie's passion for wrestling led him to become a state finalist for three years during his high school years. After high school, he joined the army and served in the Korean War. Upon returning home to La Junta, he worked at Deen Foods and retired as a supervisor after 43 years. Charlie and his wife raised five wonderful children. A devoted fan of the Denver Broncos, he enjoyed watching them play every Sunday.
He is survived by his wife, Luisa Apodaca of the La Junta home; children, Linda (Randy) Perea of Indio, CA, Ron (Ramona) Apodaca of La Junta, Monica (Jerry, Sr.) Daniel of Colorado Springs, CO, Nick (Christy) Apodaca of Colorado Springs, and Kris (Ray) Navarrete of Ft. Morgan, CO; grandchildren, Randy Perea, Jennifer Perea, Monique Apodaca, Jerry Daniel, Jr., Eric Daniel, Sr., Samuel Apodaca, Jessica Apodaca, Shanika Gonzalas, Shanice Chaparro, Raymond Navarrete, II, and Christopher Navarrete; great-grandchildren, Brooklin, Kaden, Jyelle “Bubba”, Jaelyn “The Boss”, Kamrin, Harlow, Jordyn, Eric, Jr, Ahriya, Jerrick, Jagger, Isaiah, Zeke, Dandre, Issac “Firecracker”, Arianna “Inch-on”, Audrina “Uijeongbu”, Brielle “Pusan”, Zoey; siblings, Lupe Apodaca, George Apodaca, Vina Hernandez, and Robert Apodaca; and numerous nieces and nephews survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Louie Apodaca and Lorraine Black.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick's Parish with Father Joseph Matitu officiating. Interment will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery.
