Obituary

William C. Piquette, 90, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025 at his North La Junta home. He was born on December 28, 1934, in Westcliffe, CO to Charles Edmond, II & Lucile Catherine (Falkenberg) Piquette. Bill, as he was affectionately known, lived a life filled with dedication to both his family and his profession.

Bill began his educational journey at Westcliffe High School, a foundation that would ultimately lead him to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado, followed by a Master’s degree from Colorado State University in Fort Collins. His passion for education guided his career; he initially taught for two years in Westcliffe before joining Otero Junior College. From 1962 to 1975, he shared his knowledge through business and computer classes, and from 1975 until his retirement in 1993, he served as the Dean of Business Affairs at the same institution. His dedication to teaching and administration left an enduring legacy at Otero Junior College.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Bill proudly served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1955, demonstrating his commitment to his country. Throughout his life, he exhibited a deep sense of faith and community, being a devoted member of Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish where he served as an Eucharistic Minister for many years.

Bill was more than just an educator and military veteran; he was a loving husband, a devoted father, a cherished grandfather, and a great-grandfather.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Norene Piquette, and their daughters, Karen (Loren) Johnson, Amy (Mark) Lowther, and Valerie (Randy) Stanton. He enjoyed the company of his siblings, Jerry Piquette, Joan (Frank) Zugelder, John (Laura) Piquette, Paul (Leslie) Piquette, and Bud (Cathy) Piquette, along with brothers and sisters-in-law, Julia (Bob) Walters and Jim (Mary) Hardway. Bill was a proud grandfather to Lisa (Jordan) Korbitz, Tanner (Haylie) Chastain, Logan (Samantha) Chastain, Amber (Andrew) Price, Taylor (Drew) Percival, John (Vanessa) Sebastian, Seth (Tabitha) Sebastian, Kaitlyn (Kane) Hansen, and Richard, Ryan, Reston, Rachel, Cherissa, Bethany, Nathanael, and Daniel Stanton. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, McKinzy Korbitz, Marli Korbitz, Mason Price, Cameron Price, Ryder Donnell, Owen Donnell, Wyatt Percival, Emma Nerlien, Jaxson Sebastian, and Kaleb Myers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lucile Piquette, a baby girl in 1963, his son, Thomas Piquette, and his granddaughter, Sandra Marie Chastain.

A visitation will be held in his honor at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta on February 20, 2025, from 4 PM to 6 PM. A Prayer Service will take place at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick’s Parish in La Junta on February 21, 2025, beginning at 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass at 10:00 AM. Bill’s final resting place will be at Ula Cemetery in Westcliffe, where a graveside service is scheduled for February 24, 2025, at 1:00 PM.

William C. Piquette's life was a testament to the values of education, family, and faith. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
