Richard Paul Grasmick, Sr, lovingly known as Paps, 83 departed this Earth on December 16, 2024, at his La Junta home. Richard was born June 19, 1941, in Rocky Ford, CO to Paul & Catherine (Bitter) Grasmick.
He attended Vroman School & graduated from Rocky Ford High School. After high school he attended Otero Junior College for a short time before marrying the love of his life, Helen Rough on May 29, 1960.
Richard was employed for a short time at Nibco in La Junta before beginning his lifelong truck driving career. For over 40+ years he drove for Showalter, Inc., Chester Bay Trucking, and then Las Animas Transfer. He hauled grain and livestock, retiring in 2008.
Richard’s passion was being involved in his grand children’s sporting events and school activities. After retiring he became an avid Denver Nuggets and Colorado Rockies fan! He never missed watching a game on TV.
Richard is survived by his wife of 64 ½ years, Helen Grasmick of the family home; children, Richard “Rick” Grasmick, Jr. of La Junta, Stacy (Don) Oquist of Colorado Springs, Shaunna (Justin) Schrock of La Junta and Doug (Christy) Grasmick of Lamar; daughter-in-law, Myke Grasmick of Lakin, KS; grandchildren, Melissa (Zach) Rose, Travis (Olha) Grasmick of Casper, WY, Kamron (Cindy) Grasmick of Amarillo, TX, Aimee (Luke) Babb of Colorado Springs, Connor (Marissa) Oquist of La Junta, Kyle (Caylie Blair) Schrock of Jackson, MS, Cody (Abigail Hernandez) Schrock and Sari (Jake Manchego) Schrock of Colorado Springs, Dalton (Madison Sonju) Grasmick of College Station, TX, Tyler (Tristina) Grasmick of Kendall KS, Bailey (William) Robinson of Gruver, TX, Savannah (Christopher) Fluke of La Junta, and Chance (Daniella) Grasmick of Lamar; great-grandchildren, Maxton Rose, Brooke, Aiden and Blake Babb, Ava Oquist, Harper Grasmick, Jaycee Grasmick, Jasper Robinson, Charlie and Wester Fluke, and Kimber, Katherine, and Kara Grasmick, and brothers Ed and Jerry Grasmick as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, infant sister, Elaine, brother and sister-in-law, James and Bette Grasmick, and son Steven (Bucky) Grasmick.
Cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be held at a later date.
