Obituary

Patricio “Paté” Lopez of Rocky Ford, Colorado, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the age of 67. Paté was born on September 12, 1957, in Rocky Ford to the late Henry and Agnes Lopez.

In 1977, he met the love of his life, Carol Lopez. They married the same year and shared a beautiful life together, raising three daughters—Christy, Patricia, and Tina—and one son, Abel. Paté was also a proud father to his adopted son, Paul Nam of Yap.

A master carpenter, Paté’s talent and craftsmanship were unmatched. He poured his heart into every project, creating cherished pieces like wooden bears, coffee tables, rocking horses, and cribs for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. These treasures remain lovingly displayed in the homes of his family, serving as a testament to his creativity and devotion.

Paté was a man of many passions. He loved music, especially singing Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Simple Man to his son Abel. He found joy in the great outdoors, often camping and cooking delicious meals on his disco for family and friends. Known for his warmth and generosity, Paté was always quick to lend a hand or share words of wisdom.

Never without a pocket-sized bottle of Fireball. Paté’s vibrant spirit and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He had a unique gift for turning strangers into lifelong friends, whether at a gas station or a family gathering. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in his heart, sharing countless memories of bike rides, walks, and adventures with their energetic and loving grandpa.

Paté deeply valued his friendships, especially his lifelong bond with Steke Jaramillo. The laughter, support, and memories they shared were an important part of Paté’s life.

Paté is survived by his wife, Carol Lopez of Rocky Ford, Colorado; daughters, Christy Lopez (Mario Herrera) of Dodge City, Kansas; Patricia Lopez of Swink, Colorado; and Tina (Juan) Murillo of Rocky Ford, Colorado; son Abel Lopez, also of Rocky Ford; siblings, Dorothy Ramos, Rosy Altamirano, Dora Vigil, Flora Gonzalez, Raymond Lopez, and John Lopez. Paté was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Agnes Lopez; and brothers, Victor Gallegos & Manuel Lopez.

Paté will be remembered for his boundless energy, kind heart, and the countless ways he brought love and joy into the lives of those around him. His memory will be cherished forever by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
