The drama department at Swink School, under the direction of Bonnie Grossen, is showing the Fall play, a melodrama making fun of melodramas this weekend at the Swink School auditorium.
The Fall play is an annual highlight of the Swink Drama Department. This year it features a melodrama burlesquing melodramas and encouraging the audience to boo and hiss throughout the performance as directed by cue cards plainly displayed onstage.
The entire Swink School population got their sneak preview on Monday afternoon after classes much to the delight of the audience several students were taken onstage with the performers to see what it is like to be an actor.
In the play, “Curses Foiled Again and Again and Again,” several of the cast got to play more than one part, adding to the fun.
This is a melodrama poking fun at the melodrama Genre. The dastardly villain is portrayed by Cristian Barnhart, who has the booming wicked laugh of villainry down pat. Adalynn Hart is Sweet Suzanna, our delicate heroine who is threatened not only to be cut in half, but also with marriage to Dastardly Dan.
Austin Patton as Dudley Do-Gooder and Adalynn Hart as Sweet Susanna stand by as dancing engineers Mason Smith and Grant Pickering give audience cues that it’s time to Boo and Hiss in the Swink School Play rehersal on Monday.
Rylie Goodwin, the cactus, gives us some insight for what it is like to be onstage during an entire scene with only the job of holding his/her arms in the suitable cactus position. The cactus speaks out in an entertaining scene for the bit part players, getting their turn at speaking out against the trials of small parts.
