Lamar Police Department Launches Fundraiser for New Multipurpose K9 Unit

Description: The Lamar Police Department Released the Following Information Regarding their K9 Unit Fundraising Efforts...

A little more information on the Lamar Police Department K9 Initiative...

LPD currently has one K9, Spark, whose role with us is to locate narcotics. K9 Spark works hard and loves what she does! However, K9 Spark is only trained in narcotics, and being our only K9, she does a lot on her own. Of course, with the help of her handler, Officer Campbell, but the pair are looking to add more to their unit.

We are looking for help from businesses and individuals here in Lamar and the surrounding areas in adding a new K9 to our force. The K9 will be handled by one of our current officers, and we are looking at a multipurpose K9. This means that it will be used for narcotics, search and rescue, and tactical operations. We have had similar K9s in the past, and we are excited to bring another one back to the community.

This is where we are extending our hands to the people. Purchasing a fully trained, multipurpose K9, is not cheap. Hopefully you have all noticed the changes we have implemented in recent months, and understand that all of those changes use PD funds. We are asking for donations that will be put towards the purchase of this new addition. We need to raise around $14,000, and that money will go towards the purchase, training, and maintaining the K9.

If you would like to donate we accept cash and check. Checks can be made out to the City of Lamar and on the memo line be sure to write K9 Unit. Checks can be mailed or delivered to the Police Department at 102 E. Parmenter Street, Lamar, CO 81052. We are also accepting cash, but that should be hand delivered to the Police Department or directly to Officer Campbell. A receipt will be provided for your donation. Questions about the K9 Initiative are being directed to Officer Campbell; thomas.campbell@ci.lamar.co.us or 719-336-4341

Again we thank everyone for the positive feedback we have received about our recent changes. More changes are in the works, and we are very excited to share them with the community as they are finalized. Our goal here is to improve community relations and establish a better line of communication between our department and the community.
