Obituary

Evelyn Marvin passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on May 11, 2024, at Life Care Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Evelyn was born to LeRoy and Agnes Modlin on August 13, 1934, in Burr Oak, Kansas.

The family moved shortly after to Las Animas, Colorado and then to Fowler, Colorado. Evelyn attended Fowler Jr and Sr High School where she graduated in 1952. She attended Pueblo Junior College and then graduated from Colorado State Teachers College (University of Northern Colorado) in 1956 followed by receiving her master’s degree in education 1958.

Evelyn married Doyle Marvin on July 14, 1956, at the First Baptist Church in Fowler, Colorado. They moved from Fowler to Milliken, Colorado where Evelyn taught Home Economics in the Johnston-Milliken School District while Doyle finished his college degree at the University of Northern Colorado. In 1960 they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where Evelyn taught Home Economics in District 11. During this time they were involved in First Baptist Church and started their family. In 1967, they returned home to Fowler, Colorado to be closer to family. Evelyn stayed at home with her boys and helped her father LeRoy Modlin at the Phillips 66 Gas Station. In 1977 Evelyn returned to teaching at Fowler School District where she was the Home Economics teacher and FHA Advisor. She retired from teaching in 1986. She was a popular teacher and recognized statewide for her innovative curriculum including the creation of the Bachelor Survival course.

Evelyn was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Fowler where she served as a Deaconess and Hostess for many Church events. She was also very active in local and statewide activities with American Baptist Women. She loved to entertain and cook. She was always in the kitchen making her family’s favorite meals. Delivering homemade cookies at Christmas was a joy for her. She served on the Fowler Library Board for many years and was an active member of Fowler Women’s Club.

Evelyn is proceeded in death by her husband of 56 years, Doyle Marvin. Parents LeRoy and Agnes Modlin, in-laws Lloyd and Emma Marvin. Brother and Sister-in-Law’s Ronald Switser, Donald Marvin, Herbert Green, Bud Chappell, Eva and Ray Lundy, Ruth and Tony Jordon, Harold and Ula Schultz. Nephews Randy and Richard Lundy.

She is survived by her sons Jerry (JD) Marvin of Thornton, and Kevin Marvin of Colorado Springs. Grand Children Clayton (Nikki), Beau, and Kassidy Marvin and Great Grand Children Michelle, Christine, and Weston Marvin. Her loving sister and best friend Helen Switser. Sister-in-Law’s Anna Jean Green, Wanda Chappell, Pat Marvin Sitzman and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Fowler, Colorado at 10:30 AM on May 17, 2024, followed by burial in the Fowler Cemetery.

A Memorial Fund has been established at the Fowler State Bank, 201 Main Street, Fowler, Co 80139.

Loved by many and a friend to all. Evelyn’s devotion to her family, church and community will be missed greatly.
