Elmer Diaz aka “Porfie”, aka “Big E”, 62, of Castle Rock, Colorado, peacefully passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at his niece’s home in Castle Rock. He was born May 27, 1961, in Rocky Ford, Colorado to Joe & Marcella (Gallegos) Diaz.

Elmer attended schools in Manzanola and Rocky Ford Colorado before moving to Wichita, Kansas in 1979. He worked for the state of Kansas for a few years, before starting employment with the Forestry Department for the city of Wichita Kansas, he worked for the next 15 years before moving to Lakewood Colorado where he then worked 15 plus years before retiring in 2010 from Mountain High Tree Service. During retirement Elmer did not enjoy staying home he had to be working so he went to work part time for Walmart which he did for 13 years before he fell ill.

Elmer loved being outdoors he enjoyed fishing, hiking, camping, ice fishing, rafting and going to sporting events. If you crossed paths with Elmer, you were a friend for life. He was a very loving, loyal, caring, kindhearted man and would help anyone in need, with no questions asked. Elmer also was a jokester and had a great sense of humor, his smile and laugh were contagious.

In 2019 Elmer was hit and ran over on his way to work which he suffered major injuries, but he fought through it all. This shows how much of a fighter he was and how strong willed he was. Late September 2023 he became very ill and spent quite some time in the hospital before moving to Castle Rock in November with his niece Yolanda Maestas Vialpando, where she and her family became his caregivers.
