Catherine Elizabeth Woods, 96, longtime Fowler resident, passed away July 17, 2023 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Pueblo. Catherine was one of nine children, the daughter of Anna and Joseph Heckart, born April 7, 1927 at their farm north of Fowler. She was a graduate of Fowler High School in 1945. Jack Woods and Catherine married in September, 1945 and raised five children; Jack (Martha), Pat Laitner (Bill), Cathy Tarr (Mike), Connie Gennetten (Carl), and Paula Mitchell (Roger). She also had eight grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

Catherine and Jack bought Heckart's Grocery/Jack's Market in 1961, where she helped operate the business and was the bookkeeper. After retiring in 1977, and then repurchasing the business in 1991, she continued to be involved in the operation, until 1997, when her husband of 52 years died. During retirement years, Catherine volunteered at Faith Bible School as a Teacher's Aide, enjoying working with the youth. She also enjoyed many years of sewing, crocheting, and baking cookies for her grandchildren. Her peach pies from scratch were requested often-sometimes once a week. She was proud to be a wife, mom, grandma, and great grandma, devoting her life to her family and God.

Funeral services Wednesday, July 26, 2023, 10:00 a.m. at the Solid Rock Baptist Church, followed by burial at the Fowler Cemetery, with Pastor B.J. Ballard officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations came be made in her name to the Solid Rock Baptist Church building fund, Fowler Fire Department, or a favorite charity of the donor's choice.
