Alberto Garcia Named Otero College Head Men’s Soccer Coach
LA JUNTA — Otero College is pleased to announce that Alberto Garcia will take the helm as the new head coach of the men's soccer program, bringing with him a passion for developing strong student-athletes.
As an integral part of the men's soccer team for the past eight months, Garcia has played a crucial role in overseeing and managing budgets, planning and coaching daily sessions, as well as developing relationships with stakeholders on and off campus. His dedication to the program has already yielded a positive impact, with a marked improvement in team culture, player accountability, and academic performance. The team's GPA has risen to 3.2, with several athletes currently holding 4.0s.
Prior to his current role, Garcia served as a 2nd assistant coach at CSU Pueblo, where he was responsible for managing a group of defensive players and planning sessions. Garcia's experience in the soccer world extends beyond his coaching roles. He has also been a player and volunteer coach for Sacramento Republic FC, where he planned multiple community ID camps and events, helped with Academy needs, and assisted with community events.
Throughout his coaching career, Coach Garcia has achieved several notable accolades, including being a NJCAA D1 Region 9 Finalist as a player and coach, an NCAA D2 RMAC Champion as a coach, an NCAA D2 Super Region 4 Champion as a coach, and an NCAA D2 National Finalist as a coach.
Otero Athletic Director, Gary Addington, said, “I am very happy that Coach Garcia has been selected as Head Coach. We’ve seen him learn and grow in his position as assistant this past year. There are high expectations for him and the program, I have every confidence that he’ll meet or exceed them. I am excited to see the positive impact that Beto will have on our student-athletes and the entire school community.”
