I'm An Old Soul With A New Song
Growing up, I always wanted to be able to connect with everyone. I had one problem though: I was long-winded. I tried so hard not to babble on but I wanted to paint a picture; I wanted people to feel like they were experiencing everything as I was.
I've been singing since I was little but it wasn't until I got older that I became comfortable singing in front of people. I began to realize that when I sang, people paid attention to what I was saying.
When I started writing my own songs and singing them, people began to experience everything as I experienced it and in turn, they'd share their experiences with me.
All my life I wanted to connect with people and I found a way to. When I listen to the music that's on the radio these days, I think "only a handful of people would be able to connect with this. What about everyone else?"
I realized, if I wanted to connect with all kinds of people, I was going to have to be able to sing all kinds of music. So when I'm asked "what kind of music do you sing?" I reply, "Whatever music moves you." I really hope no one ever says death metal because if they do, I'm screwed.
