April is an important month for the Arkansas Valley Community Concert Association (AVCCA), marking the end of the old season and the beginning of the new one, according to President Judy Hensley. The last concert of the 2021-2022 season will feature Sundae and Mr. Goessl on Tuesday, April 26.

They sing and play pop and jazz standards from the ‘20’s through ‘50’s on guitar and melodica, a wind instrument with a keyboard. To attend this concert, you can use your 2021-2022 season ticket, you can pay $20 (adult) or $10 (student) at the door, or you can get in free by purchasing a 2022-2023 season ticket. The April 26 concert begins at 7 pm in the Ed Stafford Theater on the Otero campus. Come a little before 7 pm to purchase your 2022-2023 season ticket.

AVCCA’s next season will feature six concerts with a wide variety of musical genres: country, pop, bluegrass, Celtic and classical. In an effort to bring more families into AVCCA membership, the Concert Board has decided to allow free admission into next season’s concerts for youngsters under the age of 18 who are accompanied by an adult. The season ticket price for those 18 and up will be $58, (less than $10 per concert) for adults, and will be free for youngsters. Price at the door for individual concerts is $20 for adults, so a season ticket will be a bargain. A season ticket will not only provide the six regular concerts plus Sundae and Mr. Goessl at the Ed Stafford Theater in La Junta, it will also provide admission into four community concerts in Canon City, six in Lamar, and five more in Raton, NM. That makes the per-concert price very small.

Concerts scheduled by AVCCA for the 2022-2023 season include:

•    Backtrack Vocals, two women and three men singing a cappella, on Monday, October 3;

•    Mark Hensley on piano Thursday, November 17;

•    the Luther Mason Trio playing fiddle, viola and cello in a Sunday matinee January 8;

•    Dan Miller’s Cowboy Review (fiddle, guitar and mandolin) Thursday, February 9;

•    Illumine Trio (soprano, trumpet and harp) Friday, March 24;

•    and the Copper Street Brass Sextet on Thursday, April 27.

The Backtrack Vocals quintet will also perform an afternoon outreach concert for area school children.
