Colorado Corrections Responds to Deadly Incident at Bent County Prison; No Threat to Public, Investigation Ongoing
The Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC), in conjunction with local law enforcement and state officials, is actively responding to an incident that occurred at the Bent County Correctional Facility on the evening of June 6, 2026. There are no known threats to the surrounding communities at this time.
The CDOC Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is the lead investigative agency for this matter. We can confirm at this time that two offenders have passed away, and a third offender was transported to an outside medical facility for treatment. No staff members were injured during the incident.
To protect the integrity of the active, ongoing investigation and out of respect for the next-of-kin notification process, no further details will be released or confirmed at this time.
