CBI-LED CRITICAL INCIDENT TEAM INVESTIGATING OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING IN MONTROSE
May 9, 2026 – CBI – Montrose, CO –The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is leading the 7th Judicial District Critical Incident Team (CIT) investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred today, May 9, 2026, in Montrose.
At approximately 12:29 p.m., Montrose Police Department officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Spruce Drive regarding a male armed with a rifle. Two officers encountered the armed male and fired their weapons. The male was transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition following surgery. No Montrose Police Department officers were injured during the incident. Body-worn cameras for both involved officers were activated and will be reviewed by investigators.The incident remains under investigation by the 7th Judicial District Critical Incident Team, and there is no threat to the public.
