**UPDATE**
(COLORADO) - The following are updates related to this incident.
The Colorado State Patrol towed approximately 40 vehicles (this includes CMV's, trailers, passenger vehicles, etc.) from the crash scene on I-70, taking them to the Loveland Ski Basin parking lot. Troopers completed paperwork for those vehicles at this location. An estimated 60-70 vehicles were involved, including those that could be driven from the scene.
Of the eight people transported to an area hospital, seven had only minor injuries. One party suffered serious bodily injury. There were no fatalities as a result of this crash.
All lanes of travel for eastbound Interstate 70 were open just after 8 p.m. yesterday evening.
Wet, heavy snow accumulation on the roadway, causing slick conditions, is believed to be a primary factor in this crash, along with vehicles traveling too fast for the conditions, following too closely, and insufficient tire tread depth.
No citations have been issued for this incident at this time.
Shuttle buses from Loveland Basin and the Roundabout Bus in Clear Creek transported passengers and drivers who were not claiming injury to the Loveland Ski Basin Lodge, where they could stay warm and be evaluated by medical first responders.
The Colorado State Patrol wants drivers to remember that even though it isn't "Winter" according to the calendar, spring storms can still bring snow, ice, fog and high winds impacting Colorado roadways.
Colorado is anticipating another storm this Friday, so please drive with caution, increase following distance, decrease speeds, and remain attentive. If you find yourself in a crash, the safest place for you is in your vehicle. Please remain inside and wait for directions from law enforcement.
